REPORT OF AMA's 11th FREE MEDICAL CAMP HELD ON 5TH MARCH 2000, BASUND, DISTRICT MANSEHRA
Abbottonians Medical Association® in collaboration with Plan International Pakistan held its 11th Free Medical Camp on Sunday the 5th March 2000 at Govt. Middle School, Basund, Union Council Lassan Thakral, District Mansehra. It was general Medical Camp and over 1250 patients were provided free consultation by specialist doctors. The village Basund was selected by an extensive survey carried out on Wednesday 2nd February 2000 by team of AMA®, headed by Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, Secretary General AMA® and team of Plan International, headed by Mr. Siddiq Ahmed Khan, Program Unit Officer, Plan International, which is already working in this remote area in Health and Education sectors since 1997.
The Camp started at 10.30 am and continued till 3.15 pm. Various rooms of the Govt. Middle School, Basund were sub-divided into specialties like Surgery, Medicine, Gynae. Eye, ENT, Paeds, Skin etc, where specialist doctors provided free consultation to the patients. There was a separate area for the Pharmacy, from where medicines were issued to the patients.
A laboratory was also set up & some routine investigations like Hemoglobin, Urinalysis, Urine Sugar and Screening for Hepatitis B were also performed. Over 100 patients suffering from various diseases and needing further treatment or investigations were referred [on prescribed forms] to various Departments of Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad. Moreover, patients needing eye surgery were given appointment for operation at the AMA Eye Center, Abbottabad.
A lunch was hosted by the staff of Plan International in the honor of Camp participants. A group photograph of all the participants was held at the end. At the conclusion of the camp, Mr. Siddiq Ahmed Khan, Program Unit Manager Plan International thanked all the participants of the Free Medical Camp. He along with the staff of Plan International gave a gift of Anti Sera for blood grouping to AMA Blood Center.
