REPORT OF AMA's 10th FREE MEDICAL CAMP HELD ON 19TH April, 1998 AT KALINGER, DISTRICT HARIPUR.
It is our pleasure to inform you that Abbottonians Medical Association® in collaboration with Action Aid Pakistan held its 10th Free Medical Camp on Sunday the 19th April 1998. It was general camp and over 1850 patients were provided free consultation by specialist doctors. The village Kalinger was selected by an extensive survey carried out on 18th February 1998 by team of AMA, which comprised of Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, Secretary General AMA & Mr. Akbar Zulqurnain Class Representative AMA and Mr. Wasim Afzal Member AMA. Action Aid Pakistan is already working in this remote area in Health, Education and Agriculture sectors since 1992.
An advance team that comprised of six Medical Students of Ayub Medical College was sent at the Camp venue on Saturday the 18th April which made all the necessary arrangements. The Camp started at 10.20 am and continued non-stop till 3.00 pm. Various rooms of the Office / Community Centre of Action Aid Kalinger were sub-divided into specialties e.g. Surgery, Medicine, Gynae. Eye, ENT, Paeds, Skin etc, where specialist doctors provided free consultation to the patients. There was a separate area for the Pharmacy, from where medicines were issued to the patients.
A laboratory was also set up and some routine investigations like Blood Complete Picture, Urinalysis, Pregnancy Test, Screening for Hepatitis B and ECG were also performed. About 108 patients suffering from various diseases and needing further treatment and / or investigations were referred [on prescribed forms] to various hospitals affiliated with Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad and also to PIMS, Islamabad. One patient who needed immediate eye surgery was taken to Abbottabad along with the participants and was operated upon by Dr. Abdul Aziz Awan on Monday 20th April. His condition is stated to be very satisfactory. Moreover, many patients needing eye surgery were given appointment for operation at the DHQ Hospital Abbottabad.
A lunch was hosted by the staff of Action Aid in the honor of Camp participants. A group photograph of all the participants was held at the end. At the conclusion of the camp, Mr. Javed Khattak, manager Action Aid gave a briefing regarding Action Aid and also thanked the participants of the Free Medical Camp. Dr. Abdul Aziz Awan Chairman, AMA also thanked all the members of Action Aid for their kind hospitality.
