AMA
as part of its Outreach Healthcare Program, regularly organizes Free Medical
Camps in the far off villages of Abbottabad, Mansehra and Haripur Districts.
First, a survey is carried out to select the venue, preferably a Govt. facility
like Rural Health Center or High School. Information regarding the population,
common diseases provenance is gathered. Local community is actively involved. On
the day of the Camp, a team of AMA comprising of Doctors from every specialty,
Dentists, Nurses, Paramedics, Medical Students and Volunteers participate in
these Camps.
The
Camp has a Reception, OPD, Pharmacy and Clinical Laboratory where basic tests
are made available. Health education material is also distributed amongst the
patients for the prevention from various common diseases like water borne
diseases, diarrheal diseases, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS etc. Serious patients are
referred to tertiary care facilities for further investigations and / or
treatment including surgeries.
Most of
the later free medical camps of AMA have been organized jointly with other NGOs,
like Action Aid, Plan International etc
