REPORT OF AMA's EYE CAMP, 1st - 6th AUGUST 1998

Abbottonians Medical Association® held its First Eye Camp at Govt. High School, Balakot, District Mansehra from 1st August to 6th August 1998. This camp was organized with the collaboration of Khyber Eye Foundation, Philanthropists from Karachi & Leprosy Blindness Control Program.

 

Fourteen class rooms of the Govt. High School, Balakot were used for the eye camp. Four separate rooms were used for Male and Female OPDs. A big office of the school was converted in to Operation Theater. Five Classrooms were utilized for Male & Female Eye Wards. One room was used for refraction.  

On 4th day of the camp, honorable Commissioner Hazara Division, Mr. Naveed Akram Cheema, along D.C. Mansehra paid a visit to the camp. He was very impressed by the arrangements made at the camp. On the 5th day, Mr. Hasan Badr-ud-Din Khan, Principal, Abbottabad Public School & College, who is also the Patron-in-Chief AMA, visited the camp along with Mr. Basharat Ahmed, Vice Principal APS & C, who is the Coordinator of AOBA. Both of them were taken around various sections of the camp. They appreciated the services provided by AMA to the poor patients.

 The number of patients examined during the total six days was 2188.  104 surgeries were performed during the Camp, which included 50 Posterior Chamber Microscopic Intra-ocular implantation, 44 Extra-capsular Cataract operations and 10 minor operations were also performed. Patients were provided Eye Medicines, Sun and Powered Glasses free of cost. A team of leading ophthalmologists of N.W.F.P. participated in this camp.

 On 6th Aug., which was the last day of the Camp, a prize distribution ceremony was held at the Forest Rest House, Shogran?  Mr. Iqbal Swati was the Chief Guest at this function. "Certificates of Appreciation" were distributed amongst all the participants of the Camp.

Lastly, AMA would like to thank the Commissioner Hazara Division for taking his time out of the busy schedule and visit the camp. AMA is also indebted to SSP Abbottabad, Mr. Waseem Afzal Khan, an old Abbottonian for his cooperation in holding this Camp. AMA is grateful to all the participants of the camp for sparing their precious time towards this noble cause.
